WESTCLIFF maintained their amazing start to the season with a 43-14 win at Ipswich on Sunday.

A scintillating first half display effectively ended their latest triumph after just 20 minutes. By then Westcliff were 36-0 up and out of sight.

Warren Duff fired his side into the lead with a penalty goal and then some inspiring play by the whole side meant tries from all parts of the ground.

Paul Radley, Dave Schoonberg, Rob Smith, Scott Gregory and Simon Jones all scored, and with Duff landing four conversions out of five Ipswich were devastated.

But the hosts rallied and got a converted try by the break, but their hopes of a revival were dented early in the second half when Smith crossed for his second try and again Duff was on target with the conversion.

Next up for the league leaders is an intriguing local derby with third-placed Rochford Hundred.

They warmed up for the clash with a 44-5 thrashing of Brentwood.

Hundred started at a furious pace and some good approach work enabled flanker James Needham to power over for a deserved try converted by Tom Ashton.

Brentwood struck back with a try of their own before Ashton pulled Rochford further ahead with a well struck penalty.

Outstanding full-back Danny Cleare then scorched through to score a superb try, which Ashton again converted.

He then followed up with another effort before stand off Ashton brought the first half to an end with another penalty to make it 25-5 at half-time.

Cleare then completed his hat-trick when he finished off a fast-flowing move, but the best try of the afternoon was scored by Jon Baker who stormed under the posts after many phases of play.

Andy Baker then extended the advantage even further with a fine individual effort.
