RUNWELL Wyverns remain top of Essex Three after beating Ravens 27-8 on Saturday.

Ravens opened the scoring with a penalty but Runwell hit back with three points from Shane Jones.

A try from number eight Ryan Jones then put them ahead, with Jones kicking the conversion and then another penalty to make it 13-3 at half-time.

But fly half Tony Palmer was then sin-binned, enabling Ravens to get back into the game. Their full-back ran home a fine try to make it 13-8 before he was also yellow carded.

That proved pivotal and Runwell, who were now back to 15 men, added two tries in the closing stages with Michael Star and Jess Quinton both going over.

l In Essex Two Pegasus Palmerians moved up to fourth with a 27-8 win over Kings Cross Steelers.

SOUTHEND'S under-17 team won 56-0 at Ilford Wanderers.

The Seasiders scored four tries in the first half through Kit Worsley, Alex Wittamore, Will Banister and Dec Clarke, with Bannister adding two conversions for a half time lead of 24-0.

After the break both Matt Maynard and Todd Bailey grabbed a couple of tries, while Tom Reeman charged over from a short tap penalty.

The best try of the afternoon was scored by flanker Mitch Hillstead. Freddie Short was man of the match.

THE combined Basildon and Rochford under-18 girls team beat Worthing 40-12 after producing a fine performance.

Natalie McClarnon scored a hat-trick and Sophie Russell and Sarah Carman both bagged two tries.

Rachel French and Siobhan Allison also touched down.

Basford's under-15 side were also in good form as they ran home 12 tries to beat Worthing's U15 team.

DAVID Chawner, the chaplain to London Wasps Rugby Club, will be the after supper speaker at Thorpe Bay Bowling Club later this month.
