SOUTHEND Swifts under-16 girls team succeeded in building on their unbeaten South Division start to the season when they triumphed 102-17 over Redbridge Excelsior at Rayleigh's FitzWimarc School.

Redbridge scored the first basket of the contest, but after that it was largely one-way traffic.

Swifts led 21-4 at the end of the first quarter and had an unassailable 54-4 advantage at half-time.

In the second-half Swifts let their players experiment in different positions to those they normally occupy and they passed the ton mark against spirited opposition.

The win leaves the girls as the only team with a 100 per cent record in their division.

Swifts' under-14 girls went into their home Southern Conference fixture without captain Katie Holland and expected a tough fixture against Chiltern Pumas.

Swifts' squad includes five players in their first competitive season plus two new to the club.

But the girls produced a stunning display that brought prolonged applause from the watching crowd as they won 65-28.

A superb performance from 11-year-old Amy Rogers, which saw her collect a career-high 31 points, led the way, while Hannah Gowland contributed 11.
