YOUNG Nathan Glover went nap after landing his fifth 20lbs-plus carp from Northlands Park's Cafe Lake.

The 12-year-old's latest big catch was a superbly-conditioned long lean common of exactly 20lbs - following on from fish of 21lbs, 23lbs, 24lbs and 25lbs he has landed at the same venue over the last eight months.

Glover's latest big fish came from the northern end of the Cafe Lake, where pal Josh Evans also landed a 14lbs mirror during the same session.

It was then Glover's turn to shine using a shelf life boilie, immediately setting the fish off on a series of sizzling runs.

Such was the speed and power of these runs that nearby anglers thought that Nathan had hooked a much bigger fish, possibly even the venue's elusive big ghost carp.

Once the fish had been landed, its muscular body revealed the source of its speed and power.

The fish is known to be one that has doubled in weight in recent years, and venue regulars reckon it has the potential to eclipse the twenty nine pounder that currently holds the lake record.

While Glover has been pulling in 20lbs-plus fish for fun, carp angling newcomer Paul Gooding is still trying to land his first after coming close for his third-successive trip to the Northlands Park Road Lake.

Gooding has pulled in three 19lbs-plus fish in the last three weeks - the most recent being a common of 19lb 12oz from the northern end of the road lake that fell to a shelf life tutti frutti boilie presented alongside the marginal weed.

Elsewhere, quivertip specialist Steve Elliott landed 14 bream for a 41lb - including a best of 5lbs 6oz - haul at the Northlands Park Cafe Lake.

Elliott landed his massive haul by presenting two grains of yellow sweetcorn over a bed of red groundbait.

Fellow quivertip man Peter Nicholls landed nine carp to a best of 16lb 8oz when he fished the Gloucester Park cockle bank.

Nicholls took the haul, which also included specimens of 11lb and 13lb 4oz, using his homemade white chocolate mini boilies. He started off fishing tight to the island before trying the near margin.

Derek Eves alternated between the pole and a quivertip to include 28lb of quality roach in a 50lb plus haul.

The roach all fell to pole and caster, while the quivertip produced two double figure carp, a few bream and two tench.

Southend angler Morris Smith was also on form on his first ever trip to Basildon's Gloucester Park, landing a personal best 20lbs 8oz common carp.

Morris fished the incoming canal where he hair rigged cubes of fried luncheon meat.

The carp picked up a bait presented just a rod length out and fought for more than 15 minutes before coming to the net.

Pole angler Carl Murray enjoyed hectic sport when he fished for roach at the Gloucester Park Cockle Bank using a caster at 11m.

Murray netted a 31lb bag of roach, several
