LAYTON Ndukwu has returned to Leicester City after his loan spell at Southend United was cut short.

Ndukwu joined Blues from the Premier League side on a season long loan back in August.

But, after failing to make an impact, the 21-year-old has now headed back to the Foxes.

And Shrimpers boss Sol Campbell feels that will be best for the youngster's career.

"He’s gone back to Leicester," confirmed Campbell.

"He’s a great lad and I don’t know how the deal was done in the beginning but it's been tough for him since the start and he’s back at Leicester now.

"They have a great training ground and he’s near his family and friends.

"That’s the main thing and it’s about him being comfortable back in that environment.

"I’m sure he will have a fantastic career.

"He might go on loan again or stay with the 23s, I’m not sure.

"But it’s about getting back home for him and being with Leicester.

"They can monitor it from there."

Ndukwu made 10 appearances while with Blues but he failed to make a single start in the League and played three minutes of football since mid-October.
