KRIS Newby is seeking a reaction from his Basildon United players when they face Coggeshall Town tomorrow having put in their ‘worst performance of the season’ against Dereham Town.
Bees, who finished the clash with 10 men thanks to Tom Anderson seeing red for the second outing in succession, suffered a 3-0 defeat to Dereham in midweek.
And Newby insists he will not accept a similar display when Coggeshall visit the Cousins Car Wash Stadium.
“We had a chance cleared off the line just before half-time against Dereham and, if that went in, it could have been a totally different game,” said the Basildon interim player-manager.
“I told the boys at half-time that they needed to roll their sleeves up because it would be a dogfight in the second half, but they didn’t do that.
“It was probably the worst performance since I came to the club in the summer.
“I told the players after the game that if that’s the sort of performance they will put in, there will be wholesale changes.”
While Basildon are 18th in the Isthmian North standings, Coggeshall are marginally outside of the play-off places.
But, having beaten Coggeshall in the FA Cup first qualifying round back in September, Newby insists the Bees have nothing to fear.
“I will be looking for a reaction from the players,” added Newby.
“We have confidence because of beating Coggeshall earlier in the season.
“Having beaten them before, there is no reason why we can’t do it again.
“It would be great to get three points on the board.”
