MARK Bentley has called on his Canvey Island side to keep building momentum by beating Dereham Town tomorrow.

The Gulls head into their latest Isthmian North meeting having recorded back-to-back wins over Bury Town and Soham Town Rangers.

And Bentley is keen for his play-off chasing outfit to make it three victories on the bounce at Park Lane.

“We have spoken about building momentum and getting that consistency,” said Bentley.

“I have told the players how many points I want from the week and we have got two very good results.

“We have to maintain this rich vein of form because we are in and around the play-offs now.

“It goes without saying that we need to make sure we keep climbing the league table.

“Our target is getting into the play-offs but that is the aim for another 10 teams, so we need to do all we can to make sure we achieve our goal.”

Canvey are just two points off the top five, while Dereham are 10th in the standings following a 3-0 win at Basildon United in midweek.

The Gulls’ last home outing ended in a 3-0 defeat to neighbours Hullbridge Sports.

And Bentley is keen for his side to put on a performance for the Canvey supporters to celebrate this weekend.

“Our last home performance was not acceptable,” added the Gulls’ chief.

“The players know that and they have responded well since then.

“We have to make our home ground a bit of a fortress if we want to achieve our goals.”
