SOL Campbell is refusing to give up on Southend United’s hopes of survival after securing his first League One victory with the Shrimpers.

Blues won 2-1 at Accrington Stanley in Campbell’s 12th League game in charge.

And Campbell – whose side are 12 points from safety – still believes the Shrimpers can stay up.

“There’s enough points and anything is possible,” said Campbell.

“I’m not going to give up on this team.

“I don’t care what anyone else says or if we don’t get anyone in, I’ll just get on with it.”

A second half penalty from Jason Demetriou saw Blues bag just their second League win of the season.

And Campbell was quick to praise his players.

“Congratulations to the lads, they all put in a great shift and it was fantastic really,” said the 45-year-old.

“It’s a relief really because it’s been a long time coming.

“We had a few more chances to kill the game off completely but I won’t be complaining.

“I’m going to enjoy the win.”
