ROCHFORD Hundred stayed top of the London & SE Premier Division after beating Sidcup 29-13 at Magnolia Road.

The victory kept Rochford two points clear of second placed Guernsey.

And Sonny Gay - who was among Hundred’s try scorers - was pleased to see Rochford avoid slipping up when not at their best.

“In Saturday’s game we were close to slipping up and we weren’t anywhere near at our best,” said Gay.

“ Give credit to Sidcup as they defended pretty well most of the game and they took their chances.

“We didn’t switch on properly until the second half and luckily we done enough to get the win and the full five points.”

The victory was Rochford’s seventh in succession and Gay felt it was another crucial result in their bid for the title.

“It was very important to get the win,” said Gay.

“Any slip up would be costly as both Guernsey and Wimbledon are so close to us.

“Every point is going be massive now to get us where we want at the end of the season.

“But as a group we are really confident.

“We know how well we can go when we turn up but we will have a lot of pressure on us for the rest of the season.

“ Going away to Tunbridge this weekend will be another test of how well we can deal with it.

“They only just lost out to Guernsey at the weekend after having a big lead over them so we know it’s going to be another difficult game for us.”

Rochford fought back from 10-5 down at half-time to secure their latest victory which came courtesy of tries from Sam Arnott, Todd Bailey, Adam Ferrier, Mac Duaibe and Gay, who was pleased to touch down for the second game in succession.

“I’m always happy to be scoring,” said Gay.

“I had a lucky bounce to get this one.

“I just need to keep them coming now for the rest of the season.”

Rochford have nine more matches to play this term as they bid to secure a third successive promotion.
