SOUTHEND United boss Sol Campbell believes Richard Taylor has a bright future in the game - despite his omission from the Shrimpers squad.
The 19-year-old defender started three of Blues’ four games in late November and early December.
But, following the Shrimpers’ 4-2 defeat at Bristol Rovers last month, Taylor has been left out of the squad six times in succession.
And Campbell has now explained why.
“For us, we’ve got to look at all scenarios,” said Campbell.
“He’s a young lad and I think he’s a great lad too.
“He had a couple of performances which have not completely gone his way for whatever reason.
“You hope for the best with young lads but for a couple of games it’s not quite worked out for him.
“He’s still a good player and he’s one for the future.
“It’s just tactical really.”
Taylor joined the Shrimpers in the summer after being released by Premier League side Burnley at the end of last season.
