SOUTHEND United manager Sol Campbell insists he knew nothing about a relegation release clause in Tom Hopper's contact.

Hopper joined Lincoln City in a deal worth £150,00 late last week.

But Campbell was not willing to confirm if the striker had a clause in his contract enabling him to leave on a free transfer if Blues went down.

And he was instead keen to wish Hopper well at the Imps.

“Good luck to Hops,” said Campbell.

“He’s a great lad and he puts everything into football.

“His work ethic was fantastic and good luck to him in the future.

“He will be sadly missed but we have other options and we have to find the right combination.

“He was a fantastic servant for the club and a great guy so I can understand why Lincoln have gone for him.

"But I don’t know about a clause in his contract."
