SOUTHEND United are in transfer discussions with two targets.

But Blues boss Sol Campbell is staying tight-lipped.

“I’m waiting for some Christmas presents but they are a bit late,” said Campbell.

“I don’t mind when I get them and if they come now I’m happy.

“But I’m not going to say someone is coming in until they’re here.

“I can’t really say anything on that at the moment.”

The duo Blues are in talks with are both believed to have left Macclesfield Town last week.

And a Blues club statement confirmed that discussions continue to take place, despite the transfer window having now closed.

“The club has been tracking, for some time, Sol Campbell’s two principal targets,” said the statement.

“This opportunity was subject to a tribunal hearing, held on Wednesday, brought against the player(s) existing club(s) by the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association).

“Following a successful conclusion of the tribunal hearing, Southend United are now in detailed discussions with the two, out of contract, players’ agents to hopefully conclude negotiations over the coming week.”

Campbell was in charge of Macclesfield between November 2018 and August 2019 before being appointed by the Shrimpers back in October.

The Silkmen announced at the weekend that Emmanuel Osadebe, Theo Vassell and Miles Welch-Hayes had all left the club.
