SOUTHEND United are looking to bring Ted Smith back to the club but could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper was released by the Shrimpers at the end of last season but has continued to train with Blues this term.

And, after Nathan Bishop made the move to Manchester United, the Shrimpers are keen for Smith to come back to Roots Hall and have now offered him a contract.

Youth-team goalkeeper Callum Taylor has been on the bench for the last two matches.

But Smith, who also came through the ranks at Blues, has been handed the opportunity to return.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper made 30 appearances with the Shrimpers before being let go by Kevin Bond at the end of the previous campaign.

But Smith is also believed to be attracting interest from Tottenham.

The former King John School pupil was on trial with Spurs at the start of the season and the Premier League side are now also believed to be interested in offering him a contract.

However, Smith will be more involved with the first team if he opts to join the Shrimpers.
