NATHAN Bishop is excited to have made a shock switch to Manchester United.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper has swapped Southend United for Old Trafford.

And he cannot wait to get started with the Red Devils.

“I’m extremely excited and it’s an incredible opportunity for me,” said Bishop.

“This is a huge club with an incredible history and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

“I’m delighted to be here and the last few days have been a bit mad for me.

“It’s been a lot to take it but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

“I’m looking forward to the future and I can’t wait to crack on and see what it holds.”

Bishop was involved in the warm up for Manchester United’s 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford on Saturday. But he only learnt of United’s interest at the start of last week.

“I first heard on the Monday that there was an idea it might happen,” said Bishop.

“It was great to hear a club like Manchester United were interested and for everything to go through.”

Bishop had long been highly rated by the youth coaches at Roots Hall and he emerged through the ranks to make 39 first team appearances.

And the shot-stopper insists he will forever hold good memories of his spell with the Shrimpers.

“I’ll look back on my time at Southend with a strong appreciation for the club,” said Bishop.

“I learnt so much from everybody there, both the staff and the players. I had the opportunity to play for club and it meant something to me every time I did.

“It’s a very good club and it was a pleasure to have played for Southend. I’ll always be keeping an eye out for how they do.”

However, Bishop will now be focusing on making the most of his opportunity with Manchester United.

“I’ll be dropping in and out playing games when I can for the 23’s and hopefully training in and around the first team group when they need me,” said Bishop.

“My hopes for the future are to play at the highest level I can. I’ll give everything I’ve got everywhere I go and make the most of the short career a footballer has! But my dream is to play in the Premier League.”
