ECHOSPORT talks to Gillingham fan Lewis Browning ahead of tonight’s game.

What have you made of the season so far?

“It started slowly but I think I speak for the majority, if not all, of the Gillingham fan base when I say I’m loving life right now.

“We’re currently on an unbeaten streak of 13 in the League, which is the longest in the top four divisions bar Liverpool.

"It feels like we’ve just forgotten how to lose.

"I’m enjoying going to Priestfield again because our home form has been good, which couldn’t have be said in the last couple of seasons.”

What have you made of the job Steve Evans has done?

“He’s been brilliant. He’s said all the right things and certainly done the right things on the training ground.

"We’re incredibly hard to beat and have the joint second best defensive record in the league, conceding just 30 goals in 31 games so far.

"When you compare that to last year, when only four teams had a worse defensive record, and realise that all of our back four were with us last season, it’s clear to see the impact Evans has had back there.”

What are your hopes for the rest of the season?

“The ambition has to be the play-offs. To be on the run we’re on, and to think otherwise, would be silly. If we win Tuesday we will be four points off the top six.

"This season may come a little too soon - we have drawn way too many games, including 10 of our 15 away outings - but I’d definitely not write us off.

“It’s certainly nice to be worrying about what’s above us rather than below us for once, though.”

Who is the dangerman?

“It’s difficult to pick out one man but, on current form, I have to go with Jordan Roberts. Whether it’s up front, out wide, or just off the striker, he’s been brilliant since he came in last month.

“He works hard, creates plenty and has a wand of a left foot. He’s linked up well with John Akinde, too, and always looks as if he has a goal in him.

“A shout-out must go to Jack Tucker in defence, too.

What’s the team news?

“There are no fresh injury concerns from Saturday, but we may welcome Alfie Jones back from injury.”
