DANNY Scopes fears the decision to postpone Concord Rangers’ FA Trophy quarter-final tie with Royston Town will result in the Beach Boys taking a financial hit.

A bumper crowd was expected at the Aspect Arena today, with Concord looking to extend their historic run in the competition by reaching the final four.

But a failed pitch inspection an hour before kick-off resulted in the clash not going ahead and Scopes admits the postponement will have financial implications.

“I think having the game moved from Saturday to Tuesday because of the postponement will result in a financial loss for the club, which is disappointing,” said Concord boss Scopes.

“When you are a small club and rely on people coming through the turnstiles to grow, it’s frustrating to miss out on that revenue.

“You wouldn’t think the same sort of crowd will be coming to the game on a Tuesday night, but it is what it is.

“There were a lot of postponements locally, so we could have got even more through the gate if the game had gone ahead.

“It’s particularly frustrating for the volunteers who were working tirelessly on the pitch on Friday and then back at the club at 6.30am on matchday.”

Concord’s home tie with Royston will now take place on Tuesday.
