JAMIE O’Hara feels Billericay Town were made to pay for not being ruthless enough as they settled for a 1-1 draw at Eastbourne Borough.

Jack Paxman struck soon after the break to cancel out Charlie Walker’s early opener for Eastbourne.

And, with goal difference separating Billericay from the National League South relegation zone, O’Hara admits it was an opportunity missed.

“It was difficult in the conditions, with the wind not making it easy,” said player-manager O’Hara.

“I thought the boys did well in the first half other than in the second minute.

“Having got the goal early in the second half, I expected us to be on top but we are so wasteful in possession in good areas.

“That let us down again because we worked the ball to get into good areas but then didn’t make the final ball count.

“We need to get results and draws, for me, are not quite enough. We need to get some wins on the board.

“We should have won the game and we should have been 3-1 up at half-time despite playing into the wind.

“We weren’t clinical or ruthless enough.”

Billericay got off to a disastrous start as an unmarked Walker headed Dean Cox’s cross home from close range.

Paxman missed the opportunity to level matters midway through the opening period as Eastbourne goalkeeper Franco Ravizzoli was equal to the midfielder’s effort.

Ravizzoli also frustrated Femi Akinwande on two occasions but could do nothing to stop Paxman restoring parity by slotting home two minutes after the interval.

Billericay’s Watford loanee Harry Hudson was denied an injury time winner as his header was kept out by Ravizzoli.
