EWAN Binneman is excited by the challenge facing Westcliff as they bid to secure their National Two South status.

Westcliff sit nine points above the drop zone with six games to go.

But Binneman is confident Westcliff have what it takes to avoid relegation in the club’s first ever season at this level.

“It can’t get more exciting than this,” said Binneman.

“We can help ourselves by winning a game or two away and the results below us going for us.

“But we need to take every game as it comes and do our best to stay up. I personally think we deserve to and last week’s performance proves it.”

Westcliff have triumphed five times in 24 outings so far this season but have also suffered a number of narrow defeats along the way.

Last time out, Westcliff were beaten 19-12 by table-topping Tonbridge Juddians.

And Binneman took plenty of positives from the determined display.

“It was a strong performance against a top of the table team and that’s always positive,” said Binneman.

“The boys gave it everything they had and it was a really determined effort.”

Westcliff will now be bidding for another strong display when they head to ninth-placed Old Albanians tomorrow.

And Binneman is looking forward to the contest.

“We’re confident,” said the prop forward.

“It’s not everyday you can say that going into a game but we are all very excited for this last group of important games and we feel tomorrow can be a good day.”

Albanians triumphed 19-17 at the Gables back in November.

And Binneman is expecting another close battle tomorrow.

“We lost to them at our place after having two chances to win it at the end so it was an even match with some good rugby being played and I’d imagine it will be close again,” said Binneman.

“They have also had some good results against a few top teams so, as always, it’s going to be another tough game.”
