SOUTHEND United have been hit by two more charges by the Football League.

The Shrimpers have been issued with a second misconduct charge after failing to pay their players on time for February.

And they have also been hit by a further charge for fielding an ineligible player in the 2-1 victory against Lincoln City at the start of February.

A statement on the EFL website said: "Southend United has been issued with a second misconduct charge for non-payment of players, alongside a further charge for fielding an ineligible player.

"The club has been referred to an independent Disciplinary Commission for failing to adhere to the terms of the players’ contracts in failing pay a number players on the applicable payment due dates in February 2020.

"The commission will also hear an additional charge relating to the fielding of an ineligible player in the Sky Bet League One match against Lincoln City FC on 1 February 2020.

"As both matters are now subject to proceedings, the EFL will be making no further comment at this time."

Blues were also charged with misconduct for the non-payment of wages after failing to pay a number of players on time back in December.
