SOUTHEND United fans have been heading online for their football fix since seeing the League One season come to a halt.

Zayne Khan has been managing the Shrimpers’ eSports side, which plays FIFA, since January.

And the 17-year-old has been approached by a number of players in the past few weeks.

“Since the coronavirus outbreak we have seen a rise in people interested to play for Southend United eSports,” said Khan.

“We have received more messages from Southend fans wanting to join the team than ever before and we’re looking at adding more Southend players into the team.

“With the amount of interest we are getting we could also set up a fans match against our team.”

Khan joint manages the Blues side with Daniel Walters and competes on the Virtual Pro Gaming site which is owned by Arron Louis Dellosa.

The team play every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and are currently lining up in the Premier South and the English Premiership.

Each member of Khan’s side controls a player on the pitch.

And he is keen for them to have fun.

“We have a high team spirit and this is what we strive for to bring us closer as one,” said Khan.

“Myself and Daniel want the players to enjoy themselves while also bringing success to the Southend United eSports team.”

The new season gets underway this week but the Shrimpers made a winning start in the #UltimateQuaranTeam cup on Sunday night, seeing off Bristol Rovers 3-1.

The Southend side was controlled by Daniel junior, the son of Walters, and he remains a key part of Blues’ side.

“Daniel junior is playing in the cup and he is also a key part in our VPG side,” said Khan.

“He is hoping to have a good goalscoring season and will also be competing for the Golden Boot with our other striker Jazzake, who is a top experienced player.”

Khan has also urged fans to sign up for free on the VPG website, virtualprogaming.com
