SOUTHEND Saxons’ player of the year Joel Armitage has a signed a new three year contract with the club.

The powerful prop produced a number of outstanding performances last season.

And Saxons’ director of rugby Josh Ward is thrilled to be keeping Armitage at Warners Bridge.

“Securing Joel for the next three seasons is brilliant news,” said Ward.

“His performance levels over the past year have been outstanding and his condition has also improved dramatically which is testament to his hard work.

“Securing not only coach’s player of the season but also being voted by his peers as player’s player of the season speaks volumes of how important he is to our group.

“He’s a crowd favourite and someone who is going to play a pivotal role for us going forwards so I’m delighted.”

And Armitage is also pleased to be staying put.

“I’m really happy to be re-signing for Southend,” said Armitage.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and I’m excited to spend the upcoming seasons with a great group of people at this club.

“Hopefully we will be able to build on what we’ve been doing the last couple of years and take the club back to where it belongs.

“Southend is a great club off the field and the members and support for the squad is excellent."
