DANIEL Bentley has been saddened by Southend United’s struggles.

The Shrimpers seem set to be relegated back into League Two unless the current campaign is declared null and void.

And Bentley - who played a huge part in Blues working their way into League One - is gutted to see his former side doing so badly.

“It’s sad to see what’s happening after all the hard work that’s gone in there over the years,” said Bentley.

“League One is the minimum Southend deserve to be and it’s sad to see the club struggling.

For whatever reason there are issues that you see circulated in the media but I really do hope they get back to where they belong.”

Bentley made 160 appearances for Blues and now plays for Bristol City in the Championship.
