HARRY Redknapp has revealed he has spoken to Southend United chairman Ron Martin about Weymouth manager Mark Molesley.

The 39-year-old, who has guided Weymouth to back to back promotion, is among the frontrunners to be the next Blues boss.

And Redknapp is full of admiration for Molesley.

“I spoke to Ron about Mark,” said Redknapp.

“I’ve followed Weymouth and seen he’s done a great job there. “He worked with Eddie Howe at Bournemouth training the under 21s all week and then took Weymouth in the evenings and at the weekend too.

“I know Eddie absolutely loved him and said he’s very good so I really do think he’s someone with a very bright future in the game.”

Molesley is now the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Sol Campbell at Roots Hall.

And former Tottenham Hotspur boss Redknapp feels Molesley would do well for Southend who are back in League Two next season.

“He would be a good fit for Southend,” said Redknapp.

“He’s hungry and he works his socks off.

“There’s not enough hours in the day for him and he wants to the get the top.

“If it didn’t work out for him then it certainly wouldn’t be because of a lack of effort.”

However, Redknapp is also fully aware of the size of the task facing the next Blues boss.

Redknapp’s former assistant Kevin Bond started the previous campaign as Southend manager before leaving at the start of September.

And Redknapp knows the next boss will be taking on a tricky challenge.

“It’s a tough job for anyone but Mark is young and hungry,” said Redknapp.

“He wants to do the job and he knows non-league.

“He has big ties at Bournemouth too and I’m sure he could pull some strings to get one or two players from there.

“I really wish him well with whatever he does next.”
