ENGLAND netball star Louisa Brownfield may have shone at the World Championships, but she still returned to her Thundersley home disappointed.

The 23-year-old scored a superb 170 goals in six games in Auckland, New Zealand.

But that was not enough to secure a medal as her side suffered a painful defeat, by just one goal, in the third place play-off against Jamaica.

"It was all a good experience for me but the way it ended was disappointing," said Brownfield, a former Deanes School pupil.

"We beat Jamaica earlier on in the year but we got ourselves into a bit of a hole this time. We didn't start at all well and you just can't get away with that at this level of the game.

"We fought back really well and scored six or seven goals in the last three minutes without reply but unfortunately that wasn't enough for us."

England eventually lost 53-52 against Jamaica but Brownfield was cheered by her own fine form which saw her praised by captain Amanda Newton.

"I was pleased with the way I played," said the goal-shooter.

"It went well but it would have been much better if we had got the medal."

England also suffered a defeat in the semi-finals against the eventual champions Australia.

Brownfield will now enjoy a break from the game before the resumption of the Super League next January.

"The next championships we have is the Commonwealth Games which takes place in 2010," he said.

"Before then we will have a few test series but they are yet to be organised because we are now waiting for our new coach to be appointed."
