SOUTHEND United came back from two goals down to beat Charlton Athletic 3-2 in an entertaining pre-season friendly this afternoon.
Mark Molesley’s side found themselves 2-0 down against the Addicks at half-time.
But the Shrimpers surged back after the break with goals from Brandon Goodship, Eren Kinali and Isaac Hutchinson securing victory for the visitors.
Charlton, who were relegated from the Championship last season, took the lead from the penalty spot when Josh Davison fired home after George Lapslie had been brought down in the box by Southend goalkeeper Mark Oxley.
The Addicks then doubled their lead just before the break when Lapslie fired home from long range.
Blues made nine outfield changes on the hour mark and the new look line-up soon got back in the game when Goodship headed home.
The Shrimpers remained on top and, just moments later, drew back level when Kinali sent a scorching shot into the top right hand corner of the net.
Hutchinson was soon denied by Charlton goalkeeper Dillon Phillips before he also fired over from inside the area.
But the midfielder was not to be denied as he curled a late winner into the far corner to make it three pre-season wins out of three for the Shrimpers.
Southend United first hour: Oxley, Bwomono, White, Lennon (Hutchinson 30’), Clifford, Green, Klass, Phillips, Egrbi, Kelman, Humphrys.
Final 30 minutes: Oxley, Demetriou, Mitchell-Nelson, Taylor, Howard, Kinali, Gard, Hutchinson, Bridge, Acquah, Goodship
