SHAUN Hobson will be looking to make a name for himself at Southend United.

But the Shrimpers new boy will be hard pushed to match his very famous former team-mate.

Hobson lined up for Fletcher Moss Rangers during his youth.

And leading the line in that young side was current Manchester United and England star Marcus Rashford.

“It was my Sunday League side but talent is talent and he (Rashford) could take the mick even then,” said Hobson.

“The way he talks and enjoys football is exactly what he’s like.

“He’s certainly not a fake person and he enjoys what he does but that was ages ago now.”

Current United midfielder Jesse Lingard also started off with Rangers as did ex Red Devils Wes Brown and Danny Welbeck.

But Rashford would often return to play alongside his friends before he started to attract too much attention.

“After the last Euro’s he came down and played football with everyone,” said Hobsosn.

“We were in a five a side place but he’s just got too big really because people were actually coming to just watch us play five-a-side.

“I haven’t seen him since but he’s in a different world now.”

However, there is also another player from Hobson’s former Sunday League side who has also done well.

“Ro-Shaun Williams was in our side too,” said Hobson.

“He’s at Shrewsbury now and played against Liverpool in the Fa Cup last season.

“He’s doing well so there are three of us from that team who are now playing.”
