SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley has confirmed former Lincoln City goalkeeper Grant Smith is currently training with the Shrimpers.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper made 22 appearances for the Imps and has also lined up for Boreham Wood, Bognor Regis Town and Maidstone United as well as representing England C, the international side for non-league players.

And Smith is now being looked at by Molesley.

"He’s come down for a couple of days," said the Blues boss.

"We get to look at him and with the Covid situation it’s very difficult with our bubble.

"Once one of our younger goalkeepers goes to play for the under 23s it’s hard for them to come back in and we do like to work with a few goalkeepers to make sure our practices are efficient as they can be.

“We’re looking to improve every area on the pitch and, at the same time, we’re looking to make our training sessions as effective as they can be.”
