SOUTHEND United are looking to bring Alan McCormack back to the club, Echosport understands.
The 36-year-old midfielder made 166 appearances for the Shrimpers before leaving in the summer of 2010.
But Blues are now keen on bringing the Irishman back to Roots Hall.
McCormack won promotion via the League Two play-offs with Northampton Town last season but is currently without a club.
McCormack has also played for Charlton Athletic, Swindon Town, Brentford and Luton Town since leaving Blues and has now made more than 500 appearances in his career.
His return would bring much needed experience to the Shrimpers but the club are currently restricted in the market by a transfer embargo.
