SOUTHEND United boss Mark Molesley has explained why both his strikers were taken off during Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Carlisle United.

Blues ended the game with no natural forwards on the pitch.

But Molesley was forced into making the second change.

"Brandon (Goodship) cramped up unfortunately so he had to come off," said Molesley.

"We trying to get back into the game and we felt like we needed some pace in behind so we also put Jordan (Green) up there and tried to stretch the game."
