A PLANNED protest against Southend United chairman Ron Martin’s running of the club has been postponed.

Frustrated fans had been due to show their anger following Saturday’s clash against Morecambe at Roots Hall.

But Martin has now agreed to hold talks with the supporters at the final whistle.

A statement on the group’s Facebook page said: “After talking to Ron Martin this morning at length and further conversations with the admins in this group we have decided to meet Ron after the game for a Q&A to try and get the answers we all want Therefore for now the protest will be temporarily postponed.”

The protest had attracted interest in the build up to Saturday’s game.

But the statement confirmed the fans still remain concerned about the club’s future.

“The purpose of this group and the protests was to get answers from the club for what is happening as we are all rightly concerned,” said the statement.

“If Ron is prepared to meet a group of us then this we feel is good progress and would be more beneficial than protesting right now.”

But the fans have not ruled out protesting at some stage.

“If we don’t get the right answers from Ron on the important issues concerning us fans right now or he fails to deliver on his promises on the HMRC debt and the transfer embargo then rest assured protests will be reorganised ASAP,” said the statement.

“We are still gaining more and more members every day on this page and have gained 250 members in less than two weeks now. Thank you all for your support.”
