THE second half of Southend United's 1-1 draw at Crawley Town suffered a delayed start after Elvis Bwomono was sick on the pitch.

Referee Brett Huxtable held talks with the Shrimpers right-back alongside both managers and the stadium's Covid officer who then had to wash the affected area of the surface.

But Bwomono was eventually allowed to continue, much to the relief of Blues boss Mark Molesley.

"Elvis drank his electrolytes too quickly when he came back out," explained Molesley.

"He burped and gulped and I think some water came out.

"I don’t know if the referee saw it or not but obviously with Covid at the moment you have to be careful.

"There wasn’t anything there because it was water coming out but you can’t be too careful in this day and age.

"Elvis is fine though and he played the full game which was great."
