AFTER getting a Prem A point on the board from a tough away fixture last week, Old Southendian Mens first XI looked to continue forward momentum against tough opposition Bedford, recently relegated from National League.

The Old Boys get off to a flier with Dave Catchpole driving round the baseline and slotting the ball past the goalkeeper early on in the game.

Bedford equalised shortly after with a well worked short corner.

With the second half under way, Giles Davies re-established the home side's lead with a brace.

One slotted drag flick, followed shortly by a tap in, assisted by Ben Cottons' weaving dribble.

A late fight back from Bedford saw them pull one goal back from another short corner. However, man of the match Sam Lowe helped shut out the visitors for the final 10 minutes, securing three points for the home side.

The men's second team continued their strong start to the season with a 7-1 win away at Wapping.

Goals came courtesy of a Josh Copeland hat trick, a Liam Peoples brace and a goal apiece from Jack Andrews and Rhys Durban to cement the Old Boys place at the top of Div3SE on goal difference.

The men's third team continued their winning streak with a 5-2 victory against Witham but the foruth team had another difficult afternoon at Witham losing 7-3.

Darren Fessey scored twice and young Hayden Stanford scored his debut goal but it was not enough against a very skilful forward line.

The men's fifth team beat Witham Academy 5-1.

The ladies first team won 4-2 against recently relegated Brentwood 2s.

Goals this week came from Sami Da Costa - who scored twice - Anna Cooper and Sarah Carter.

The ladies second team romped to a 6-0 win away against Crostyx 4s.

After a slow start, the Old Girls scored just before half time.

Crostyx were then unlucky to go down to 10 players due to injury and the Old Girls capitalised with goals flying in.

Becky Peters and Maggie Downing both scored twice while Maddie Parker and Shireen Ayub also scored.
