CONCORD Rangers boss Danny Scopes heaped praise on Danny Green after the experienced midfielder fired the Beach Boys into the first round of the FA Cup.

Green came off the bench to net a dramatic late winner in Concord’s 2-1 victory against Chippenham Town at the Aspect Arena on Saturday.

But Scopes was not surprised to see the former Dagenham man fire home.

“I watch him every week in training and he always hits the target from those kinds of areas,” said Scopes.

“As soon as it came back to him our eyes lit up because if I could pick anyone to be on the edge of the box to be finishing that I would be picking him.

“I’m really pleased for him too because he’s taken on a different role this year.

“He’s not had so many minutes and he’s come into the coaching side of things which we’re trying to develop.

“He actually came on to take a penalty but he went one better.”

Green’s effort has put Concord in the hat for Monday night’s first round draw.

But Scopes does not mind who the Beach Boys will be facing next.

“It would be a great tie to play Canvey but that would mean one of us would have to go out which would be disappointing,” said Scopes.

“I’m not fussed who we get and I don’t read too much into it. “My focus will be on next week at Maidstone and trying to get the boys to play a bit better there.”
