SOUTHEND United defender Nathan Ralph will miss the rest of the season with a cruciate ligament injury.

Ralph picked up the injury against Salford City.

And Blues boss Mark Molesley has now confirmed the left-back will need surgery.

"Unfortunately we’ve lost Nathan for the season and that’s a real bitter blow to us," said Molesley.

"He’s been fantastic for us both as a player and a person.

"We wish he was with us, he was a pivotal part of our plans and unfortunately we’re going to be missing him.

"He needs surgery and we really wish him well and a speedy recovery."

Ralph was also out for nine months after suffering a dislocated shoulder last December and made just eight appearances before being forced back onto the sidelines.
