CANVEY Island are just one step away from potentially facing a Premier League side after booking their place in the second round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win at Banbury United.
A fine individual effort from Conor Hubble gave the Gulls a first half lead on their travels.
Banbury responded with Ricky Johnson turning the ball home from close range on 68 minutes.
However, the home side were only on level terms for three minutes as Canvey restored their slender advantage through Elliott Ronto.
Mark Bentley’s side refused to give up their lead this time around and will now be in the hat for the second round of the competition.
Premier League and Championship clubs enter the FA Cup at the third round stage, meaning a glamour tie could be just 90 minutes away.
