SOUTHEND United are still unable to officially register either Sam Hart or Simeon Akinola, Echosport understands.

Blues announced the signing of left-back Hart earlier this week while striker Akinola joined back in September.

But neither can now be added to the Shrimpers squad until the club’s transfer embargo has been cleared.

And when asked if the duo have been registered, Blues boss Mark Molesley said: “They’ve signed their contracts.

“It’s tough times out there but they’re actively getting ready to play at the soonest opportunity.”

It is understood Blues had been hoping to add Akinola to the squad once he had recovered from a thigh injury but the allocated squad size allowed while under an embargo reduces to 16 once the transfer window has closed.

But Molesley added both were working hard on their fitness.

“Sam is one who has been out of training for a while so he might need a week or two to get up to speed,” said Molesley.

“He’s working hard to catch up. Sim is similar to Sam too.

“He’s working hard to get up to speed, getting ready to play.”

Blues chairman Ron Martin has yet to respond to Echosport's request for clarification.
