Wycombe right-back Jack Grimmer hopes the injury his teammate Dominic Gape picked up, ‘is not too bad.’

The 26-year-old has only played three matches all season and picked up a nasty-looking shoulder injury in the 0-0 draw against Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.

The ex-Southampton man made his return to the Wycombe line-up against Brentford just two days before, after missing the last two-and-a-half months of the season.

He played just under an hour against the Terriers after landing awkwardly when trying to win a header.

Speaking after the stalemate against the Yorkshire side, Grimmer said: “I injured my shoulder in the play-off game so I know how complicated they can be.

“There are a few boys actually who have had shoulder injuries, and I think they’re up there as being a physio’s nightmare as it doesn’t happen that often in football.

“So I really hope he recovers well because he is very important.

“I’m not too sure how serious it is but I hope it is not too bad.”

Despite his injury, the Scottish full-back was full of praise for Gape as well as his midfield partner Curtis Thompson.

Both players defended and attacked well and were just one of the main catalysts in helping the Chairboys keep their second clean sheet in a row – their third of the season.

He also full of praise for the centre-back partnership of Josh Knight and Anthony Stewart, who have been at the heart of Wycombe’s defence for the last nine matches, which has seen the club only lose four of those games.

“I would be the first to say that as we’ve conceded one too many goals, so to come back after the international break and keep two clean sheets is very pleasing for myself and for all the boys, but not just the defenders as Gape and Curtis Thompson were unbelievable.

“So, it is pleasing for me as a defender but we thought we could have nicked something at the end there.

“I think getting Gape back in front of us is huge and Curt was great - they covered so much grass that they make our job easier at times.

“And Josh and Ant have been incredible this season.

“Josh is not just fit on the pitch but off it as well and he is a great guy so I get on with him, and it is great to see them both doing so well.”

Up next for Wycombe is an away trip to Derby County on Saturday, November 28.
