FORMER Canvey Island midfielder Mark Stimson has donated his 2001 FA Trophy winners medal back to the club to help them raise valuable funds.

Stimson was part of the Gulls side that famously beat Forest Green Rovers 1-0 at Villa Park.

And a club spokesman was keen to thank Stimson for his kind gesture.

He said: “This is an extraordinary act of generosity from Mark, and one that we offer him a huge amount of thanks for.

“The 2001 final saw us beat Forest Green Rovers 1-0 at Villa Park, and this medal is therefore a rare opportunity to own a part of the greatest day in the club's history.

“Rather than list the medal for auction, instead we are holding an online raffle to make it accessible for all. Tickets cost £1.00 each, with the raffle ending on Sunday 31st January 2021.”
