SOUTHEND United left-back Tom Clifford suffered another injury blow during the Shrimpers' 0-0 draw at Stevenage this afternoon.

The 21-year-old returned to the starting line-up after recovering from the back spasm which forced him to miss the 1-0 defeat to Forest Green Rovers.

But Clifford had to be taken off in the 22nd minute after suffering a dead leg.

Blues boss Mark Molesley confirmed: "It was a nasty impact one above his knee.

"It locked up but dead legs are funny ones and you have to be careful with them."
