SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley was keen to highlight Emile Acquah’s part in the 1-0 win against Scunthorpe United.
The 20-year-old led the line for the Shrimpers at Roots Hall.
And Molesley was pleased with the youngster’s contribution.
“I don’t single players out but young Emile has led that for us,” said Molesley.
“He was excellent at Stevenage and he’s done it again today.
“He’s 20 years old and playing against experienced defences by himself.
“He’s learning very quickly but it was a gritty performance.”
And it was one which was rewarded with three points after James Olayinka impressively netted late on.
“It was a great finish from James,” said Molesley.
“He had a great solo effort not long before that and he wants to score goals.
“He was in the right place at the right time.
“It was excellent work from JD (Jason Demetriou).
“He ended up by the corner flag which showed how much energy he showed.
“It was a team effort, a great goal, three points and a clean sheet with the fans back too. That’s what we all signed up to.”
