GREG Halford spent a week training with Grimsby Town before scoring against them on his Southend United debut.
The 36-year-old headed home Blues’ final goal in the 3-1 victory at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.
And Halford signed for the Shrimpers having previously spent time with the Mariners.
“I went to Grimsby for a week,” confirmed Halford.
“I was forcing the manager here to make sure the deal went through in time so I could play against them.
“These things are written aren’t they.
“New signings often haunt their old clubs and things like that.
“It happens a lot and it’s happened for me now too.”
