ON LOAN Southend United midfielder Kyle Taylor admits he had no idea how to celebrate after scoring the first goal of his career.

The 21-year-old broke the deadlock for Blues against Grimsby Town on Tuesday night after just 24 seconds.

But Taylor was not sure how to react after hitting the back of the net at Roots Hall.

"Once it went in it was a bit strange and I didn’t really know how to react," said Taylor.

"It was my first goal but it wasn’t a 90th minute winner or anything like that.

"We still had 89 minutes to go but it changed the dynamic of the first half.

"We didn’t mean to but I think we dropped off a bit but of course I was delighted to score.

"To be honest I didn't realise just how early on in the game it was and a few others didn't either."

Taylor's goal came in his 10th appearance for Blues.

The midfielder has often featured in a deep-lying role in the centre of the park.

But he is keen to also help further forward if possible.

"Everyone wants to score but sometimes it’s down to your position in the team," said Taylor.

"If I’m a bit higher then it’s in my interest to get assists and goals to help the team.

"But when you’re deeper you might have to do more defending and help to control the middle of the pitch a bit more.

"If I can help with more goals then great but you have to focus on doing well for the team."
