SOUTHEND United boss Mark Molesley felt his side never ‘got going’ in their 2-0 defeat at Leyton Orient.

The Shrimpers saw their five match unbeaten run ended in disappointing fashion at Brisbane Road.

And Molesley was frustrated with the display.

“We never really got going and that’s the disappointing thing,” said Molesley.

“It’s frustrating and we haven’t reached the standards we had been setting.

“We were submissive and we didn’t quite get our distances right.

“We’ve come up a little bit short and small details have a big impact.

“We were well in the game at 0-0 and the longer it went on we felt we would get into our stride and fix some problems.”

However, Orient broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with Jobi McAnuff curling home a fine free-kick.

But Molesley was aggrieved by how far back referee Craig Hicks positioned the Shrimpers wall.

“The disappointing thing from our point of view is giving away the free-kick and yes we need to do better there,” said Molesley, whose side are now bottom of the League.

“But with good players around you need your wall to be 10 yards.

“You could see every one of my players is asking him to recount it because it’s wrong.

“Yards matter in that area and we’re disappointed but it was a great free-kick from him.”
