SOUTHEND United boss Mark Molesley wants Tuesday night's defeat at Leyton Orient to act as 'fuel to the fire' for the Shrimpers.

Molesley's side slipped to the bottom of the League Two table after losing 2-0 against the O's.

But the Blues boss is demanding a strong reaction to the setback.

"We will have to take it on the chin and learn quickly from this because the group has been on an upward trend," said Molesley.

"We have to make sure this is just a blip.

"We’re bitterly disappointed but we have to pick ourselves up quickly, remember what’s been going well and fix what needed to be fix.

"We got what we deserved tonight and didn’t reach where we needed to be.

"We have to use this game as fuel for our fire and take it as a kick up the bum and a reality check.

"We’re never too high when we win and never too low when we lose because the job never changes.

"It’s reflect, learn, work hard and get better."
