SOUTHEND United manager Mark Molesley told referee Carl Hicks he should have doubled checked how far back he put the Blues’ wall for Leyton Orient's controversial opening goal.

The Shrimpers felt they were made to stand further away than the allocated 10 yards when the O’s Jobi McAnuff scored from a free-kick at Brisbane Road on Tuesday night.

And Molesley made his feelings known to the officials on the pitch at the final whistle.

“I just said you’ve got every single one of my players asking to double check it was 10 yards and I just thought he could’ve done it again to check just out of courtesy,” said Molesley.

“Just redo it, it would’ve taken 10 seconds to make sure the wall was in the right place.

“If he was right then at least everyone would’ve known but we’re not a team built on excuses.

“We need to look at ourselves and we need to be better.”
