SOUTHEND United boss Mark Molesley felt Greg Halford was unfortunate to be sent off during the Shrimpers' 1-0 win against Barrow.

The 36-year-old was shown a second yellow card by referee Christopher Pollard just seven minutes into the second half after a foul on Scott Quigley.

But Molesley was not sure it was the right decision.

“I felt the second yellow card was a little bit harsh to be honest,” said Molesley.

“He’s dangled his foot there on the halfway line and we still had plenty of defensive cover.

“The guy has rolled around him and it’s not like he was getting away or anything like that.

“His studs weren’t up or anything like that and I thought the referee might have taken a bit more time about it.

“But we can’t control any of that but I’d rather talk about our reaction after the sending off.

“We showed real resilience to get the clean sheet but also had some good chances to score.
