JOHN White is confident Southend United will again be showing their new found stronger mentality when they head to Grimsby Town tomorrow.

The bottom of the table Blues are now just one point and one place behind the Mariners after winning four of their last six games.

But White, who made his 250th appearance for the Shrimpers last time out, was always confident Mark Molesley’s side would start to pick up points this season.

“I always thought it was going to take a bit of time,” said White.

“When a new manager comes in they’ve got different ideas and it’s about implementing them to the whole squad.

“But you get to that point when you’re not thinking about things too much whereas you do have to to start with because it’s a new way of playing and thinking.

“When you start to get that in-printed on you and you’re working on things day in, day out it becomes more instinctive and it allows players to flow better.

“You’re not reacting and doing things ahead of time rather than it doing it off the cuff when you need to at the last minute .

“I said it from the start it would take and it’s taken longer than we would like.

“But we’re building momentum and the manager has changed the mentality of the club from top to bottom.

“We don’t feel like we’re going into games trying to hold onto things.

“We’re looking to win every match and we’re figuring out the best way to do that.”

Blues will be doing that again this weekend as they head to relegation rivals Grimsby.

But White is expecting another tricky afternoon against the Mariners despite their own indifferent form.

“Grimsby will be tough because every game is tough,” said White.

“When you are where we are in the League every game has to be like a cup final for us.

“It has to mean more to us than it does to them.

“I think it’s starting to show how much it means to us and we don’t want to be where we are.

“We want to be climbing up the league, getting to safety and moving on from there.

“Better things are coming and we’ve given ourselves a fighting chance to start creeping up the League now.

“It’s just a case of not getting ahead of ourselves and every game has to be a cup final.”
