SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Mark Oxley was keen to remain positive following Saturday's 0-0 draw at relegation rivals Grimsby Town.

The share of the spoils kept the Shrimpers at the foot of the League Two table.

But Oxley looked at the plus side of picking up another point in his 150th appearance for Blues.

"It’s one we have to take positively just like we did at Mansfield a few weeks ago now," said Oxley.

"We’ve said in there this would’ve been one that didn’t go our way earlier in this season but the lads scrapped really hard.

"Maybe we lacked a bit of quality at times but it’s another point and another game unbeaten.

"But we’ve got to build on that now going into Tuesday."

Oxley has now kept five clean sheets in his last eight games.

But the 30-year-old feels the whole team deserve credit for the increased number of shut-outs.

"The lads have been brilliant in front of me to limit chances from opponents lately," said Oxley.

"It’s never nice to be conceding goals like we were at the start of the season when teams were getting loads of chances but now it’s only one or two a game.

"It’s down to the stability of the group. Boys have come back and been brilliant but we have to keep it going."

Blues will now be looking for another clean sheet against high-flying Cambridge United at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.

And Oxley will head into the game on a high having made his 150th appearance for the Shrimpers.

"I’ve had some injuries since I’ve been here so to get to that mark is something I’m proud of and long may they continue," he added.
