SOUTHEND United are still waiting to discover the full extent of James Olayinka's ankle injury and scan results could also determine his future at the club.

The midfielder's loan spell from Arsenal expires this month.

But Blues boss Mark Molesley has yet to discover the seriousness of the setback Olayinka suffered at Grimsby Town on Saturday.

"James has gone for a scan and we’re waiting for the results on that at the moment," said Molesley.

"Fingers crossed it’s bad bruising but if he’s twisted on it there could be ligament damage but the scan will show us how bad it is.

"We’re waiting and hoping for the best."

And Molesley is still in talks with Olayinka's parent club.

"Communication has continued between us and Arsenal," said the Blues boss.

"We feel he’s benefitted from being here and would like to keep that going but there’s quite a few factors to consider from Arsenal’s side.

"But we will wait and see what the results of the scan are before we can say anything concrete on that one.
