FORMER Southend United coach Graham Coughlan is the bookmakers’ favourite to be Port Vale’s next manager.

Coughlan spent almost eight years with the Shrimpers, making 42 appearances as a player before holding a number of different roles in the coaching set up.

The Irishman left Roots Hall along with boss Phil Brown in January 2018 and has since embarked on his own managerial career, taking charge of both Bristol Rovers and Mansfield Town.

Coughlan was dismissed by the Stags in October but is now favourite to take over at Vale Park.

The bookmakers have the 46-year-old at 8/15 to replace John Askey in charge with current caretaker boss Danny Pugh 2/1.

Vale are 16th in the League Two standings and host Blues this weekend.
